In the Labor and Industries accident that occurred on January 17, 2007; three employees at the Seattle Iron & Metals were repairing a large metal shredder. All of a sudden it fell on top of them, injuring two and killing one of the workers. Oddly, the machine was off when the accident occurred.

"Firefighters arrived at the business at 601 South Myrtle St. about 9 a.m. and were able to quickly remove the two injured men from beneath the wreckage. But it took them about a half-hour to get to the third man. He was pronounced dead at the scene."

After the firefighters had left all 60 employees were sent home for the day. The employees of South Seattle metal-recycling company said they weren't feeling well or safe enough to work after the accident.
